SureBus Privacy Policy

Fortress Mobile ("Fortress Mobile," "we," "us," or "our") developed and operates SureBus (the "App"), a mobile application that provides school bus fleet tracking and communication services to school districts, transportation staff, and families. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you. It applies to all users of the App, including parents/guardians, students, bus drivers, and fleet or district staff.

By downloading, accessing, or using SureBus, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location Data

To provide real-time bus tracking, arrival estimates, and route information, SureBus collects precise GPS location data:

• From driver/staff devices: continuous location data while a route is active, used to power live bus tracking for that route.
• From parent/student devices (optional, where enabled by a district): approximate location, used to support features such as "notify me when the bus is near my stop."

Location data is collected only while the relevant App feature is in active use, or as configured by the school district administrator.

1.2 Contact and Account Information

When you register for or use SureBus, we may collect:

• Name, email address, and phone number
• Role (parent/guardian, student, driver, or staff) and affiliated school or district
• Student name and associated bus route or stop, provided by a parent/guardian or school administrator
• Account credentials (e.g., username and password, or single sign-on identifiers provided by your school district)

1.3 Usage and Device Data

We automatically collect certain technical and usage information when you use the App, including:

• Device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers
• App version, crash logs, and diagnostic data
• In-app activity, such as features used, notification interactions, and session timestamps
• General network information (e.g., IP address, mobile carrier)

1.4 Communications

If you contact us for support, or if messages are sent through in-app communication features (such as driver-to-parent notifications), we may retain records of those communications.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and maintain core App functionality, including live bus tracking and arrival notifications
• Enable communication between school districts, drivers, and families
• Verify identity and manage accounts and permissions by role
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve App performance and reliability
• Respond to support requests and communicate with users about the App
• Maintain the safety and security of the App and its users
• Comply with legal obligations, including requirements applicable to school transportation services

We do not use location or contact data collected through SureBus to serve third-party advertising, and we do not sell personal information.

3. How We Share Information

We share information only as described below:

• With the school district or transportation authority that administers your SureBus account, since districts act as the primary data controller for student and route information
• Among authorized users within the same route or district context (for example, a driver's live location is shared with parents/students assigned to that route)
• With service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as cloud hosting, mapping, and notification delivery, under contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations
• If required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
• To protect the rights, safety, or property of Fortress Mobile, App users, or the public, including in connection with student safety incidents
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to continued protection under a comparable privacy policy

We do not share student or family information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Children's Privacy

SureBus is designed to be used within a school district context, and student information is provided and managed by parents/guardians or school administrators rather than collected directly from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 outside of this district-managed context. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information outside of an authorized school relationship, please contact us so we can address it in accordance with applicable law, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), where applicable.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the App's services, including for the duration of a school district's use of SureBus, and thereafter as needed to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Location data used for live tracking is retained only for a limited period necessary for operational and safety purposes, unless a longer retention period is required by a school district's policies or applicable law.

6. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your role and location, you may have the following choices:

• Location permissions: You can enable or disable location sharing through your device settings, though this may limit or disable core tracking features.
• Notifications: You can manage push notification preferences in the App or your device settings.
• Access and correction: You may request access to, or correction of, your personal information by contacting us or your school district administrator.
• Deletion: You may request deletion of your account information, subject to any retention obligations of your school district.

Because student and family accounts are typically administered by school districts, some requests may need to be directed to or coordinated with your school district.

7. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, or loss, including encryption of data in transit and access controls limiting who may view route, location, and account data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Third-Party Services

SureBus may rely on third-party services (such as mapping and cloud infrastructure providers) to deliver its features. These providers process data solely to support App functionality and are contractually restricted from using it for other purposes.

9. International Users

SureBus is intended primarily for use within the United States by school districts and their affiliated users. If you access the App from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal or operational reasons. We will post the updated policy at the URL above with a revised effective date, and where required, we will provide additional notice to school districts or users.
