BACKGROUND

Vineland Public Schools is located in the heart of South Jersey, with access to major metropolitan and resort areas. Our district, one of the 20 largest in the state, includes 16 schools serving nearly 11,000 students.

INITIAL CHALLENGES

Vineland Public Schools had used bus dealer recommendations to determine the surveillance and software vendors, which led to various vendors on different buses. In 2015 they decided to consolidate their vendors to one. They wanted to install a pilot system of the newest technologies from 2 to 3 suppliers to compare pricing, products, and service. Decision-makers needed to find the best vendors, so they went to a trade show to see some of the technology before implementing them. Some of the features they were looking for were live streaming video, a way to get video surveillance without pulling the hard drive, and user-friendly software with options.

SYSTEM SET UP

  • NovaX DVRs or A4D DVRs
  • Analog & IP Cameras
  • SureBus™ (Live Video)
  • Wi-Fi & Cellular Auto Download

Vineland Public Schools have over 130 buses equipped with either NovaX or A4D DVRs, depending on how many cameras are needed within the bus. Fortress HD Analog cameras are used for surveillance and live video inside the cabin of the school buses. They employ either 3 or 6 cameras (blind spots, obstructed views, etc.) based on bus type. This setup for Vineland also includes Fortress SureBus™ software capabilities. Managers can view live streaming videos and mark videos right from any smartphone or computer. Additionally, with the Auto-Download feature, instantly retrieve and download any video needed over Wi-Fi or cellular.

“Fortress’s solutions were modular enough to accommodate the different bus brands within our fleet. Their software is easy to use, but has so many features that we feel it can handle just about any request we may have of it.”

Transportation Manager, Vineland Public Schools

SOLUTION RESULTS

As a result of this all-in-one solution, the school district has had to learn only one surveillance software, get HD quality video clips within minutes of an incident, and have real-time access to the buses’ interiors. Managers can handle onboard incidents in real-time.

Fewer student behavior occurrences have been reported, and when there is, they can be corrected and addressed immediately due to live-video streaming.

Fleet management is more than owning and operating vehicles.

SureBus™ – safety, security, scalability.
